25-06 stainless lite twist rates
« on: January 21, 2019, 12:49:11 PM »

Hello

First post here, thanks for having me. I have a 25-06 T3x stainless lite, synthetic on order from a local shop. This will be my first Tikka, actually first brand new gun purchase, as I'm a fan of old classics and primarily hunt with my old .270 model 70.

I was flipping through the catalog and noticed that the stainless lite in 25-06 is listed with a 1:14 twist, while the stainless hunter is 1:10. I'll be using this gun with heavier bullets in the 115-120 grain range for deer and antelope.

I'm wondering if I should change my order to the stainless hunter and replace the wood stock with a synthetic to get the 1:10, or if there is a way I can change my order to specify a 1:10. It seems strange to supply the 25-06 with a 1:14 as the round excels in the heavier bullet range, and is more of a big game round than a varmint gun.

Any insights or advice? Thanks!

I don't know much about the 25-06 but I use the Berger twist rate stability calculator.  If you get some bullet data from the manufacturer website and plug it in it will give you a stability factor.  Doesn't mean the bullet will be accurate but can help you with twist rate.

I have never seen a tikka 25-06 in other than 1:10
I donít claim to be right, just not intentionally wrong.
Good luck, and shoot light bullets.
My experience is with a ruger m77 old model in this caliber .  The 120s never shot well. The 75ís shot spectacular.

I have a t3x lite in 2506, if it has a slow twist, I have been oblivious, I have worked up a load with 100 gr Barnes tsx, and h4350, and it produces very small groups, with chronic regularity
