Sounds like the same problem I was having.  Push the back of the tongue down so the tip is pointing up.
Work the top plastic tongue out of the clip. There will be a Z-spring attached to that top piece.  Turn the Z-spring around and attach it to the slots and then work it all back together.  If that doesn't work better, then you have a defective clip.  I think the manufacturer's don't pay attention to which way they install that Z-spring. If the clip is defective, don't throw that clip away, you can glue that top piece in to use it as a single shot block when bench shooting.  I threw my defective clip away before I heard of using it as a single shot block.

You can buy the same clips you have from an assortment of places but you could find yourself with the same issue.  I ended up buying a couple of metal ten round clips from Waters Rifleman (they also have five round clips).  They don't use the Z-spring and they have a much better quality balanced spring.  Personally, I like them.  Their a bit pricey but worth the cost.  I had some issues with shipping, others have said they had no issues.  Good luck and let us know how this turned out.  Thanks.....
